Databases

Databases contain both already published articles as well as not yet published working and discussion paper. On the one hand, there are fact databases that exclusively contain information. On the other hand, there are full-text databases that provide literature references as well as access to the complete publication. Furthermore, there are literature and reference databases that provide literature references.

Agricultural Economics

AgEconSearch is a full text database that concentrates on agronomic publications. It contains mostly working papers, conference reports and journal articles, but also book chapters and government documents.

EconBiz is a virtual library for economics that should be the starting point for all economic science research topics. EconBiz searches relevant national and international economic databases and grants access to full text publications.

Econis is an online catalogue of the central library for economic studies (ZBW). The catalogue contains journals, dissertations, discussion papers, working papers, statistics, monographies and collective works on all kinds of topics in economic studies.

 

 

EconLit contains publications to economic subjects since 1969. Besides 750 scientific journals, EconLit collects collective works since 1984 and dissertations since 1987. It also covers English papers and essays as well as publications with English abstracts and full text articles from the “Abstracts of Working Papers in Economics” database and from the RePEc project.
Access is only possibly through University network and is carried out by the EBSCO Host.

 

 

EconPapers accesses the RePEc database and therefore contains more than 2 Million entries from 4.300 working paper series and 2.300 scientific journals. A major part of the full text articles is openly accessible, for the rest a subscription is necessary.

The informational offer from Genios contains 1.300 databases, 140 Million pieces of information on companies, 340 daily and weekly newspaper, 800 scientific journals, 9 Million pieces of market and department information and 3 Million pieces of information on individuals. The subject area focuses on economic studies. The search for information through Genios is free, the access to the documents is associated with costs.

 

 

Google Scholar is a search engine for scientific publications. Besides showing search results as full text or as bibliographical reference, it also performs a citation analysis to connect citing and cited publications. It also reports how often a publication has been cited and shows a list of all citing publications.

 

 

MetaGer is a German meta search engine that uses 43 other search engines for the research topics. The choice on which search engines should be used lies with the user.

 

 

Research Papers in Economics is a full text database that contains articles from scientific journals and discussion papers. All in all, the database contains more than two Million entries from 4.300 working paper series and 2.300 scientific journals. The content is accessible through various databases, such as EconPapers, EconLit or EBSCO.

ScienceDirect incorporates over 2.500 scientific journals and 33.000 books of the Elsevier publisher and thus more than 13 Million publications. The publications deal mostly with topics of engineering sciences, natural sciences and social sciences.

Scopus is an interdisciplinary scientific database that covers the fields of health sciences, natural sciences, biological sciences and social sciences. Besides 60 Million scientific journal articles and more than 113.000 books, it also contains open access journals, conference reports and patents. Scopus also offers a link to full texts.
Access is only possible via University Network connection.

Social Science Research Network is a full text database for discussion papers. It contains about 558.000 full text articles on all topics of economic sciences, such as marketing, health economics, finances, innovations, management and sustainability.

 

 

SpringerLink is an interdisciplinary full text database belonging to the publisher Springer. It contains electronic journals, books and reference work. Searching, access to abstracts, open access journals and the archive from 1960-2002 is available for free. Licensed media that is subscribed by the University can also be accessed via University Network connection.

 

 

Web of Science is an interdisciplinary database. It falls back to databases such as the Biological Abstracts (since 1910), the Biosis Citation Index (since 1926), the Biosis Previews (since 1926), CAB Abstracts (since 1910), the Chinese Science Citation Database, Currents Contents Connect, the Data citation Index, the Derwent Innovations Index (since 1963), the FSTA (since 1969), the INSPEC (since 1898), the KCI Korean Journal Database, Medline (since 1950), the scielo Citation Index and the Zoological Record (since 1864). It therefore contains more than 12.000 scientific journals. Besides providing the bibliographic reference and the way to the full text, the citing and cited publications are also shown.

WISO is a full text database that specializes in economic sciences, sociology, law and technical sciences. It contains 14 Million literature references, 8 Million full text articles from about 450 scientific journals and 6.000 e-books, from which 340 of the scientific journals and 2.100 of the e-books deal with economic subjects.
