Global and regional agricultural markets coordinate the supply and demand for agricultural and food products. This affects the health and prosperity of billions of people and determines the type and intensity how global ecosystems are used.
Efficient and sustainable agricultural markets are therefore the key to solving some of the most important global challenges of our time.
The aim of research and teaching in the AGRICULTURAL MARKETS unit is to contribute to a more efficient and sustainable functioning of the corresponding markets. This is done in particular by examining and improving market- and regulatory measures as well as the role of technological innovations in terms of their effect on agricultural markets.
With regard to the research focus of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences at Hohenheim, interactions and conflicting goals in the use of natural resources are examined and market-based solutions are developed consequently.
The production and consumption of food and agricultural goods are currently transforming towards a Bioeconomy that is increasingly integrated globally in a horizontal and vertical manner. Markets for intermediate consumption as well as labor, capital and natural resources are therein linked in the form of value chains.
This increasing differentiation of agricultural markets based on quality, security and regionally different social acceptance leads to an increase in the importance of information, communication, cooperation and innovations.
